I discovered frozen food when I was living in Paris, surrounded by people known for their discerning palates. The French shop daily for fresh ingredients, but they also frequent another type of specialty store stocked exclusively with frozen food. This ready-made pantry enables them to eat incredibly well all week long.

My busy job left me with little time to prepare a full meal, yet I still wanted to eat at home and entertain friends in style. So I began buying frozen hors d'oeuvres by the dozen and hosting virtually effortless cocktail parties. On weekends, I shopped for a more elaborate array of frozen pastries, soups, quiches, meats and desserts to create a splendid buffet brunch. I added my own personal touches -a fresh salad, delicious wine- and my friends never suspected the food was ready-made! These Sunday gatherings became known as "Babeth's Feast."

Upon moving to New York, no frozen-food store was to be found and I really missed this wonderful option. (And so did the entire European expat community!) I had become so used to the ease, the spontaneity and the selection. Ordering in just couldn't compare and calling a caterer was cost-prohibitive. That's when I decided to bring this wonderful concept to my new hometown. After careful sourcing and extensive recipe development, I opened Babeth's Feast.
